Cellulite

cellulite is the dimpled appearance of the skin that some people have on their hips, thighs and buttocks. cellulite is much more common in women than in men because of differences in the way fat cells, muscle and connective tissues are distributed in men’s and women’s skin fat deposit that push and distort the connective tissues beneath skin cause the appearance of lumpiness leading to the characteristic “ col-age cheese” changes in the appearance of the skin. physicians refer to cellulite as edematous fibrosclerotic panniculopathy.

cellulite is unrelated to the condition known as cullulifis, which is a

spreading bacterial infection or inflammation of the skin and tissues beneath. cellulite is the herniation of suburntaneous fat with fibrous connective tissue that manifest as skin dimpling and nodularity, often on the pelvic region (specifically the buttocks), lower limbs and abdomen.

cellulite occurs in most postpubescent females. a sevier gives a prevalena of 85-98% of women, indicating that is is physiologic( caused by the body)

rather than pathologic (caused by diseases) it can result from a complex combination of factors ranging from hormones to heredity.

what causes cellulite?

the dimpled appearance of cellulite is a normal variant- one way that many perfectly normal human beings look. heredity skin thickness, gender, the amount and distribution of body fat and age can all influence the extent to which cellulite is present or visible. vellulite occurs due to shrinkage or shortening of the fibrous tissue words that anchor the skin. while cellulite is more common in women than men, men also develop cellulite . cellulite occurs in people of all races living all around the globe. although female hormones may play a role in contributing to this pattern of fat distribution, cellulite is not treatable by hormone therapy.

the exact cause of cellulite is unknown, but it appears to result from an interaction between the connective tissue in the dermatological layer that lies below the surface of the skin and layer of fat that is just below it.

in women, the fat cells and connective tissue in this layer are arranged vertically. if the fat cells protrude into the layer of skin, this gives the appearance of cellulite.

in men , the tissue has a crisscross structure, which may explain why are less likely to have cellulite than women.

hormones likely play an important role in cellulite development, estrogen, insulin, noradrenaline, thyroid hormones and prolactin are part of cellulite production process.

the theory is that estrogen in women decreases in the approach to menopause blood flow to the connective tissue under the skin also decreases. lower circulation means less oxygen in the area, resulting in lower collagen production. fat cell also enlarge as estrogen leels falls.

these factors combine to make fat deposits more visible as the fat under the skin protrudes through weakening connective tissue, the familiar dimpling effect result.

age also causes the skin to become less elastic, thinner and more likely to sag. this increases the chance of cellulite developing

genetic factors

certain genes are required for cellulite development. genetic factors can be linked to a person’s speed of metabolism, distribution of  fat under the skin, ethinicity and circulatory levels, these can affect the chance of cellulite developing.

dietory and lifestyle factors

cellulite is not caused by “toxins” although a healthy lifestyle may help reduce the risk.

people who eat too much fat, carbohydrate and salt and too little fiber are likely yo have greater amounts of cellulite.

it may also be more prevalent in smokes, those who do not exercise and those who sit or stand in one position for long period of tissue.

wearing underwear with tight elastic across the buttocks can limit blood flow and this may contribute to the formation of cellulite.

cellulite is more prevalent in people who have excess fat, but slim and fir people can have it too. it is more likely to happen after the age of 25 years, but it can affect younger people as well, including teenagers/

treatments

many people dislike the appearance of cellulite and prefer to have skin as smooth as possibly can. therefore , these are mainly affect about cellulite and many treatments exist, ranging from dietary changes to cellulite creams and mechanical treatments.

some treatments have an effect on cellulite in medical studies. these include the following:

  • ascoustic wave therapy (awt) is a treatment that studies have shown reduces the appearance of cellulite. this technique applies acoustic waves (also called sound, pressure or shockwaves) to the affected areas. typically, multiple treatments and maintenance treatments are necessary lipohripsy is another tissue of awt.
  • subcision- is a procedure that involves infection of a needle beneath the skin to breakup hands of fibrous connective tissue that separate the clusters of fat cells. health case professional perform subcision with a twice known as cellfing result of the techniques can last up to 2 years or more.
  • vaccum assisted precise tissue release is another new procedure that can help break up the though bands of fibrous tissue that contribute to the appearance of cellulite. the docter uses a device containing small blades to cut the though tissue bands subsequently the fat tissue moves upward to fill out and reduce the look of dimpled skin. other proposed treatment for cellulite have fewer studies that show their effectiveness than those described above. these include the following:
  • layers assisted liposuction adds a layer treatment to the typical liposuction fat removal procedure. studied have not yet shown whether this can be an effective cellulite treatment.pure liposuction involves extracting fat by vaccuuming it from under the skin and is not effective for cellulite. in face liposuction may worsen the appearance of the skin by sucking out the cuslion of fat that resides just under the skin. the result is additional dimpling of the skin.
  • ultrasonic liposulpting uses sound waves to try to reduce cellulite. there is no definitive evidence to prove that this technique is effective.
  • refinol creams or tropical products containing 0.3% retinol may also have some effect on cellulite. some poeple claim that this reduces the appearance of cellulite it is necessary to apply the product for six months or longer to see an effect.
  • carboxytheorapy is medical procedure inject carbon dioxide (co2) gas just beneath the skin. a small study showed this may be benificial in treating cellulite.
