EMSCULPT

Aug 31, 2020

what if you could get toned, sculpted abs without ever having to step foot in a gym? with emsculpt, a new non-surgical body-sculpting treatment, this dream can now be a reality. wondering how emsculpt and ab conditioning are related? in this post, we’ll explain everything you need to know about emsculpt and ab conditioning, including how emsculpt works, the difference between emsculpt and other ab treatments, and what you can expect from an emsculpt treatment.

how does emsculpt and ab conditioning work?

emsculpt is a body contouring treatment that can both build muscle and break down fat. during an emsculpt treatment, a specialized pad delivers intense electromagnetic energy to the body. this electromagnetic energy is called hifem, which is short for high-intensity focused electromagnetic energy. this hifem energy causes involuntary muscle contractions called supramaximal contractions, which are many times more intense than the contractions caused by a work out. and though the contractions are intense, they aren’t painful.
the electromagnetic waves delivered by emsculpt cause the body to break down fat and build muscle, in the same way a strenuous workout might— yet, can give the same results as months of regular workouts.
because emsculpt builds and strengthens the muscles, many patients find that they not only love the look emsculpt gives them, but also the feeling. when emsculpt is used on the abs, it builds the muscles, toning them but also giving the patient increased ab strength.

is emsculpt the same as other ab treatments like coolsculpting?

while emsculpt isn’t the only non-surgical abdomen treatment, it is the only one that targets your actual muscles, rather than working solely to reduce abdomen fat.

there are other treatments for the abdomen, including coolsculpting, that can reduce fat on the abdomen. but these treatments target only fat, while emsculpt works to both build your muscles and eliminate unwanted fat.

what can you expect from an emsculpt treatment?

emsculpt is fast and pain-free. for optimal results, most patients will get four sessions (two a week for two weeks) and each session takes only 30 minutes. during an emsculpt treatment, you can lay back and relax while emsculpt works to build your muscles for you. after an emsculpt treatment, no downtime is required. there’s no pain after the treatment but you may feel sore, the same way you might if you just did an intense workout.

you’ll begin to feel the results of emsculpt immediately after your first treatment and will start to see your final results 2 to 4 weeks after your last treatment.

how is emsculpt different from doing ab workouts?

there are three major differences between emsculpt and simply working out: the effort needed, the efficiency, and the speed of results.

first, there’s no effort needed on your part with emsculpt (other than the effort it takes to drive to our office). you can simply relax while emsculpt does all the ab conditioning work for you.
second, emsculpt contracts the muscles in a more efficient way than working out does. when you work out your abs by doing sit-ups, crunches, or any other ab workout, you are not using all your ab muscles with each repetition. instead, you use around 50% with each repetition. emsculpt, on the other hand, works out 100% of your ab muscles with each supramaximal contraction caused by the treatment.

third, emsculpt causes 20,000 muscle contractions per each 30-minute session, all of which activate each ab muscle. compare that to an ab workout, which activates about half of your muscles every three to five seconds in which you work out, and you’ll see why emsculpt builds the muscles much more quickly than working out.

additionally, many people find that they simply cannot get the toned abs they want from working out— yet, they can with the muscle defining, body fat reducing effects of emsculpt. frequently, even people who do intense regular workouts hit a plateau. they find that, no matter how hard they try, they cannot get the six-pack abs or core strength they want to reach their fitness goals. because of this, emsculpt is a popular treatment for those who already work out their abs but want a boost to reach that next level of fitness.

is emsculpt painful?
emsculpt is completely painless both during and after treatment. after getting an emsculpt treatment, you won’t feel pain but will instead feel like you did an intense workout.

is there downtime after emsculpt?
absolutely no downtime is needed after an emsculpt treatment. after each session, you can simply resume your normal daily activities.

does emsculpt require maintenance treatments?
when fat cells are removed by emsculpt, they are permanently gone. as long as a patient does not gain any weight after the treatment, the fat loss caused by emsculpt is permanent. the muscle-building effects of emsculpt are long-lasting and can last for six months or longer.
however, since emsculpt works by strengthening your own muscles in the same way numerous workouts might, its muscle mass building effects do wear off over time (just like they would if

you stopped working out). if you would like to maintain the full results of your emsculpt treatment over a longer period of time, we would suggest maintenance treatments.

how does emsculpt reduce fat when it targets the muscles?
in our muscle cells, there are fatty acids. when the muscle fibers contract intensely during an emsculpt treatment, the fatty cells that lie on the muscles leak out, leading to fat reduction. so while emsculpt is primarily designed to build and define the muscles, around 15% of the fat on top of the muscles will be reduced during an emsculpt treatment.

emsculpt is not plastic surgery. emsculpt is a simple, non-invasive cosmetic treatment that does not require any downtime, pain, or incisions.

what is hifem? is hifem safe?

hifem stands for high-intensity electromagnetic energy and it is the type of energy used to build the muscles during an emsculpt treatment. when used during an emsculpt treatment, hifem is completely safe and it is fda-approved for use on the abs or buttocks. additionally, non-cosmetic doctors also use hifem energy in their treatments. both urologists and gynecologists use hifem energy to help patients build their pelvic floor muscles.
